Both the Grail Trust children who had appeared in Higher Secondary School final examinations (the equivalent of our ‘A’ Levels) in the academic year 2019-2020 have passed – and passed with flying colours!
V NITHYA SRIDEVI has scored 454 out of 600 marks (75.67%). She is a delightful young lady, achieving exceptional results, especially considering her home circumstances. She is the second of three sisters. They all live with their mother and grandmother – their father died some years ago. Their rented home lacks basic comforts and sanitation. It has to be seen to be believed. Nithya’s mother works very long hours for a very low wage to support her family.
With the lockdown privations continuing in India, Nithya Sridevi is applying online, with guidance from our Grail Trust Indian trustees to various colleges for Engineering courses. We wish her the very best of luck and will of course update you as soon as we know more.
V DIVYA has scored 403 out of 600 marks (67.17%). I met her for the first time last January and was struck by her beautiful smile and bubbly personality. Her father is dead and so her mother has had the difficulty of bringing up a family of three – Divya is the youngest – on a very low income of Rs 3000 a month – about £30.
Divya told me that her ambition is to be a Chartered Accountant. Well, she is on her way! We have just learnt that she has been accepted study Accountancy at a nearby college. Congratulations Divya! The Grail Trust will of course be covering all her fees.
Both these girls now have the prospect of a bright future and an opportunity to build a better life for themselves and their families.
