It was with great sadness that we heard just before Christmas of the death of our loyal trustee from Grail Trust India, Dr Abraham. Dr Abraham and another of our Indian trustees, Mr Gregory Retnaraj, had been friends for fifty five years and were neighbours.
Mr Gregory writes:
“DR. ABRAHAM’S LIFE HISTORY
Dr. Abraham was born on 21-03-1940 in Nazareth, a small town in Tirunelveli District (which, at present, is in Thoothukudi District). Since his mother died when he was 2 years old, he was brought up by his grandmother in Thisayanvilai, a small town in Tirunelveli District.
As he was a very meritorious student, scoring high marks in his Secondary School Leaving Certificate examinations, he was admitted to Government Medical College, Madurai. After passing his M.B.B.S examinations, he started practising as a Junior Doctor for a brief period, in Madurai.
Since he was very keen to serve the poor and the under privileged residents in rural area, he consciously opted to serve in Vallioor, a small village at that time, when no other doctor was ready to serve in such a small Village, due to monetary considerations.
Being the first doctor to open clinic in Vallioor and serve its poor population, he became very popular, within a short period. Thereafter, he opened a clinic by name JebaMani Hospital in Valliyoor and served the rural masses for more than 40 years, till his death.
He had served as a doctor in Vallioor, with absolute dedication. He was not only the first but also the best doctor in Vallioor area, with a mission to serve humanity to the best of his ability, till he breathed his last on 19th December, 2022 at the age of 82.
Apart from practising as a doctor, he had been an active member of ROTARY CLUB OF VALLIOOR and GRAIL TRUST (INDIA), where he served as a Trustee, from its inception till his death.
He was also giving free medical treatment to the inmates of HOME FOR THE OLD AGED at ERUVADI, situated about 5 Km away from Vallioor, where the poor and neglected old aged people are taken care of.
He is survived by his daughter LEENA, who is working as a doctor in England and his son, Jones Abraham, who is blessed with his wife Pupsy and lovable daughters GEORGINA AND CHRISTINA.
With the death of Dr. Abraham, the residents of Vallioor and surrounding rural areas have lost a very able doctor, who had always held their interest before his own. His service to the public is unparalleled and it is hard to find another Doctor with a sense of service and absolute dedication to the poor and downtrodden, like Dr. Abraham.
May his soul Rest in peace.”
Both the Grail Trust and poor of Vallioor have lost a good friend.
