Like the UK, India has been in lockdown for many weeks. This has made it very difficult to get much needed payments to our Grail Trust children and their families. The UK trustees, under the leadership of Chairman Neil Fairlamb, decided weeks ago to increase the payments through through these difficult times from Rs 800 (£8.50) a month to Rs 1000 (£10.65). With no welfare benefits to help the poor in India – no furlough payments, for example – the struggle to survive has been hard.
The families of our Grail Trust children collect their assistance every month from the offices in Chinnammalpuram. This has not been possible with the lockdown. However, I am pleased to report that with the permission of the authorities, all of our families now have their payments for April and May. We are told that they are, “very happy”.
